Update: I don’t wish to deny that this recipe is… decadent. However it is not very “real food” … for a better–and dare I say it? tastier–version of this recipe, try my Divine Hot Chocolate.
Leftover wine is not a concept with which I am all that familiar… but earlier this week, by a strange twist of events, I had half a bottle of red wine just sitting there waiting to brighten my day. And, by happy coincidence, I had just found Home Cooking Adventure’s recipe for Hot Chocolate with Red Wine.
I love wine. I also love hot chocolate. I can’t imagine why it had never occurred to me to combine them.
Not being much of a direction-follower, I used the recipe for inspiration only and made my hot chocolate this way:
Combine: 1c milk 2 T dark, unsweetened cocoa powder 2 T confectioner’s sugar 1/8 tsp cinnamon Pinch of cayenne pepper Pinch of salt Heat until boiling. Remove from the heat and let cool a couple of minutes to avoid flashing off the alcohol when you add the wine. Stir in 1/4 c red wine. Enjoy!
It was thick and rich with that touch of spiciness only cinnamon and cayenne can bring.
Decadent.
This recipe was incredible! I enjoy wine for lunch and in the evening. I also have a square of dark chocolate in the afternoon. Now I can combine all of these great tastes in one great beverage. Thanks . . . . PEH
I’m glad you liked it!
