Okay.
So something totally cool happened last week.
I was nominated for the Liebster Award by my friends at Taylor-Made Ranch!
What on earth is a Liebster Award? It’s a get-to-know you thing that bloggers do. It means that another blogger thinks you’re pretty darn cool, AND it means that you get to share blogs that you think are pretty darn cool, too! How cool is that?!?
Okay. Now what?
-
Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you and display the award.
-
Answer eleven questions that the blogger gives you.
-
Give eleven random facts about yourself.
-
Nominate eleven blogs that you think are deserving of the award (that have less than 200 followers)
-
Let the bloggers know you nominated them.
-
Give them eleven questions to answer.
So here we go! 🙂
My answers to Taylor-Made Ranch‘s questions:
-
Chili: Beans or no beans? Beans. Definitely beans. I know there are people out there who don’t like beans in their chili… and I even see the redundancy of beans AND meat. But, in my opinion, it’s just not chili without the beans!
-
What’s your favorite quick dish to cook when it’s suppertime & nothing’s been planned? To get some fish out of the freezer and has my husband to cook it. Unless I’m feeling really lazy… then we just have popcorn and wine!
-
Who gave you the biggest push to begin your blog? A friend of mine had been giving me a hard time about my desire for self-sufficiency, self-determination, and my defense of a certain Constitutional Amendment–actually, my defense of all of the Constitutional Amendments–and I got sick of saying really well thought out things to someone who simply wasn’t listening. So I started my blog. Sadly, my “friend” hasn’t spoken since. (I’ve made a bunch of new friends, though, so it’s been a good thing–I think.)
-
What’s you favorite leisure activity? If by “leisure activity” you mean, something that can be done while sitting down, then it is reading. Or writing. Or reading.
-
What’s the favorite post that you’ve written? (Be sure to include a link!) It would have to be To the uneducated an “A” is just three sticks… or How to Raise a Clever Reader. It was SO much fun to go back and look at all the pictures of the kids when they were little, and remember all the books we loved to read to the kids… And recite a few of them–from memory–at the dinner table! 🙂
-
What feature do you most admire in others? The ability to do the right thing… even when it sucks.
-
What was the best gift you ever received? Six-inch black platform high-heeled shoes, suitable for dancing on and around a pole. And a gift certificate for pole dancing classes. It was the gift of strength, confidence, and sexiness. Plus the gift of an hour a week of “me time” every week.
-
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be and why? I have actually given this a lot of thought… and I think it would be the ability to move among enemies unseen. I think this would be extremely helpful in fighting the Powers of Darkness. But I would also like a twin brother, preferably one with whom I could communicate telepathically.
-
When you were in grade school, what did you want to be when you grew up? A superhero. 🙂 Of the Princess Leia, She-ra, Nancy Drew variety. In fact, I still want to be a superhero… I just no longer expect to wrap up all the trouble by the end of the book, be given a magical sword, or suddenly discover a long-lost twin. I have not, however, given up on the idea of fighting the Powers of Darkness in high-heels. In fact, have the most awesome pair of tall, black, high-heeled boots that I wear whenever possible–just to be prepared!
-
What is your favorite charity? My kids’ school.
-
Do you have any tips for someone new to blogging? O-R-G-A-N-I-Z-A-T-I-O-N. I give this advice to myself daily. Perhaps one of these days it will stick!
Eleven things about me:
-
I am a master procrastinator. My motto is: “Never put off something until tomorrow that can be put off until next week.” (This also explains why this post is JUST getting up!)
-
I dance when I’m cooking. And, yes, sometimes I let things boil over or scorch because I am too busy dancing. A lot of the time, actually!
-
My playlist is awesome. And it contains everything from Metallica and Guns & Roses to Lorde and Katy Perry. I have punk, rap, death metal, and even some country music. And show tunes, old-fashioned rock and roll, and Egyptian belly dance music. And, yes, it is all on the same playlist.
-
I don’t have a favorite color… or a favorite food. Life is too short and too complicated to play favorites.
-
I absolutely refuse to admit that I have a book-buying problem. I will not admit to any such thing until I hit rock bottom. And by that I mean when the upper stories of my house fall into the basement due to the weight of the books!
-
I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan.
-
I want to be a writer when I grow up. A blogger, yes, but also a novelist. And, maybe, a photographer.
-
I am unrepentantly messy. And if you come over to my house I probably won’t clean for you.
-
My husband and a couple of my friends call me an “unfailing optimist.” I think I drive them nuts!
-
10. I expect the best of people. I expect people to be honest, fair, open-minded, forward-thinking, polite, and kind. I expect people to identify the problem, see the solution, appreciate the difficulties, and do the right thing anyway. Needless to say, I am regularly disappointed. But I continue to expect it. (See # 9.)
-
I wrote all of this on a piece of notebook paper, complete with crossings-out, little arrows, and writing up the margins. I love the feel of my pen gliding across the paper. I use a computer only because I want other people—and sometimes myself—to be able to see what I have written.

It was FUN! 🙂
Thanks, again!!!
Congrats for being nominated.
Thanks so much for mentioning my farm 🙂
I appreciate it!
Thanks for nominating me, this looks fun. I will work on my questions tonight.
Thank you so much, Christina! “You like me! You really like me!” (Quote from Sally Field, of course). Sorry I didn’t get back with you sooner – my plate has been very, very full lately and blogging has been taking a back seat! Judging by your answers to the questions posed to you by Taylor Made Ranch – you and I are birds of a feather. As you can see, I am also a major procrastinator! “Life goes on” and “it is what it is” are two of my favorite quotes! Though this is my second Liebster award, I will try to continue the chain and nominate more people – soon! 🙂
Thank you so much Christine, and congrats on your nomination!! I can not wait to work on my post, you posted some fun questions, and I loved reading your responses to your questions, I also suffer from procrastination, maybe with a touch of distractibility (I am pretty sure that is a word 😉 I have read this post 5 times this week and am just now commenting, but I really am thrilled to be nominated by you!
Christine,
I don’t want you to think I am being a party pooper, I am feeling very fortunate to have been nominated by two bloggers this week.
I am very flattered 🙂
RIght now life is a little crazy as we are having lambs and we have been under the weather.
I just want to let you know I am thankful for the nominations, Liebster Awards are a fun way to get to know other bloggers.
I follow your blog and enjoy your post!
Sandra
That’s totally fine! And completely reasonable! Games are only fun if you have time to play them! 🙂
Go take care of yourself and lambs–and post little lamb pictures, because they are adorable and I like to share them!!!
Blessings!
