My Week on Wednesday… June 18

My Week on Wednesday // Once Upon a Time in a Bed of Wildflowers

Hello and welcome to another My Week on Wednesday where I take a few moments to share what I’ve been doing over the week. I share some of the blogs I’ve visited, and some of the things that I have learned.

And, yet again, I have misplaced another week. In fact, looking at my calendar and seeing that the Summer Solstice is upon us (it’s June 21st at 6:51 am, in case you were wondering) it seems that I have misplaced and entire season.

That, of course, means that My Week on Wednesday will have a new cover picture next week. Can’t wait to see what the next picture will be? Well, to be honest, I can’t either. 😉

What do you think? Roses… day lilies… something else? What says “summertime” to you?

Next week is the kids’ last week of school, and we are in the throws of final field trips, the school picnic, bake sale, and uniform exchange, and getting ready to say goodbye to everyone for the summer. (Which isn’t true, of course, we’ll have playdates and beach days and all of that good stuff.)

Oh yeah. And I’ll have my little darlings here ALL DAY. EVERY DAY. (Whether or not this is an excellent thing or a horrible thing will change on a minute to minute basis! 😉 )

You know what else is happening this time of year? Farmers’ Markets are opening up. The Public Market is open all year ’round with many local farmers selling all kinds of things through the winter… but the local neighborhood ones are opening now. And they are all kinds of fun!

There’s not a whole lot out yet… but we came home with strawberries, fresh spinach, and goat milk. (And, no, I don’t know why she wore the crown to the Farmers’ Market; probably because it’s a six-year-old thing to do.)

But I am so ready for the food to start arriving… especially zucchini, because I have a great zucchini and eggplant recipe that I can’t wait to share with you! 🙂

In the meantime… check out 50 Zucchini Recipes from Free Range Life — and don’t forget to scroll all the way down to the bottom for the dessert recipes! And, if you’re thirsty, check out Homemade Honey-Sweetened Lemonade (yum!) and Old-Fashioned Root Beer, which has been on my “must try” list for ages now!

And, of course, Banana Nut Butter Soft Serve from Raia’s Recipes… because. Just because. And because it’s dairy free, gluten-free, and free of a whole bunch of other things you might not want to eat… and you don’t even need an ice cream maker. 🙂

Looking for a fun, educational project for the kids… the Homestead Lady has a great post about Natural Dyes from the Children’s Garden. Plus I spilled wine on my white sweater… and even though I got out most of the stain… a little natural dye might brighten things up a bit if you know what I mean. 😉

And speaking of laundry… washing laundry by hand? Let me assure you that I had never, even once considered such a thing until I read Spring Mountain Living’s post. It was very interesting… and I have now moved washing laundry by hand from the “You Have Got To Be Kidding Me!” category into the “Hey, I Could Do That!” category. I have to admit that I probably won’t — ever — even if having my own washboard does have some sort of appeal. 😉

Now, this is where I’m supposed to put up my Quote of the Week… because I’m supposed to put up a quote on my Facebook Page approximately daily. Well, guess what didn’t happen this week? Not a single quote.

*** hangs head in shame***

The good news is that I already have one up and posted for this week. The one with the most likes, comments, and shares will become the Quote of the Week for next week. I promise. 🙂

Also, if you haven’t already, be sure to come visit me on Facebook and follow me on Pintrest! And don’t forget to join me tomorrow for Thousand Words Thursday! And, on Friday, link up with the From the Farm Blog Hop, of which I am now a proud host! Phew… busy, busy! 🙂

So, what did you do this week? Please tell me; I love to hear!

  1. Thanks for the shout out, Christine! Glad you posted about the farmer’s market – it reminded me I need to get down there this week! So tired of store produce…

    Hey there!
Is that a Lagoner’s farm truck behind your daughter? Love it!
I hear you about the misplaced season! Ugh, I have no idea where spring went, it looks like you had a good week though!
