Hello and welcome to another My Week on Wednesday where I take a few moments to share what I’ve been doing over the week. I share some of the blogs I’ve visited, and some of the things that I have learned.
We’ve been busy preserving summer around here… I’ve frozen and dehydrated a ton (not literally) of cherries, and frozen 22 packages of beautiful, spray-free blueberries. And canned I don’t-know-how-many jars of jam. Blueberry Currant Jam is my newest recipe, and I just love it. But plain old blueberry is pretty delicious, too!
How are you preserving summer? If you’re looking for ideas check out these posts:
Fruit Preservation Projects from Homespun Seasonal Living. This is a great round-up of a bunch of different ways to preserve fruit!
Making and Preserving Cherry Pit Syrup from Montana Homesteader. Seriously? Seriously. There is always a lot of fruit bits left when you pit cherries… and it doesn’t need to go to waste! I wish I had read this post before I pitted all those cherries… Sigh… Plus this post contains links to a bunch of other great preserving ideas.
Blackberry Cordial & Simple Syrup from Pixie’s Pocket. Blackberries and alcohol. Need I say more? Oh and syrup… for the kids, or ’cause maybe you don’t want alcohol on your pancakes. Or, maybe you do… Hmmm…. 😉
The Unappreciated Apple: Crab Apple Butter from The 104 Homestead. My grandmother used to make crab apple jelly, and I remember it (vaguely) as being delicious. I would love to try my hand at making that, but also this crab apple butter, because it sounds delicious. Now, if only I knew someone with a crab apple tree…
Dehydrate Your Way to Green Powder at GNOWFLINS. Admit it… sometimes your beautiful greens go slimy in the fridge before they make it into your salads, smoothies, or dinner. This post fixes that!
By the way, this is the dehydrator that I have, and I LOVE it. 🙂
The other neat thing that happened this week, was that this beautiful fellow graced my parents’ yard with his majestic presence. My mom took this picture and has graciously allowed me to share it with you. Thank you, Mommy! 🙂
And, finally there is this post from Kelly the Kitchen Kop which I wish everyone would read — Statins and Memory Loss: Do Statins Make You Stupid? Hint: The answer is YES.
It’s important to understand, that when your cholesterol numbers are high, that is because you have inflammation, which the cholesterol is trying to combat. That means that there is something wrong (and, no, it’s not just bad genes!) … something that taking statins won’t fix. It may be that your diet has too much sugar, or too many processed foods, or that you have some other medical problem… but that is the thing that you need to fix.
Just read the article. Okaythanks.
And now for the Quote of the Week. Approximately daily, I post quotes on my Facebook Page. The quote with the most likes, shares, and comments will become the Quote of the Week…
