My Week on Wednesday and Coffee

Join us each week for My Week on Wednesday to find out what Christine from Once Upon a Time in a Bed of Wildflowers has been doing all week and also to find some GREAT links about that week's THEME

Hello, and welcome to another My Week on Wednesday!

The Year Wheel has turned again. Last weekend we celebrated Halloween, or Samhain (I pronounce it it “sah-win”), the last of three Harvest Festivals. Samhain literally means “summer’s end”, and is generally considered to be the Celtic New Year. We are now entering the darkest part of the year. The gardens are pretty much done; everything has been harvested, preserved, and stored for the rapidly approaching winter.

The veil between the worlds is at its thinnest now, as the light and plants are dying all around us, it is a good time to remember those who have gone before us. This is the time of year to bring our deceased loved ones back into our thoughts, and to share your memories of them with the people who knew them, and with those who will only know them through your stories.

It is also the candy-driven, ghosts and goblins, very secular Halloween!  🙂

The Pixie was Mary Ingalls. Because Laura had brown hair, and Mary, like the Pixie, was blond. The Boy was the Grim Creeper, which is some sort of Grim Reaper/Minecraft thing that he came up with himself. (I LOVE that my kids are smart and clever!)

And I wore my cloak, because I could. There was a day, in my high school and college days, that I wore it just because. But now it is relegated to a Halloween thing. Sigh…

Anyway… Last week we did Warming Drinks for Halloween and Other Nights of the Year. But you know what we didn’t do?

Coffee!

Ahhh!!! You can’t leave out coffee!!!

I didn’t. Believe me. I postponed coffee until today. Because I already had about 30 links. And because coffee (for me, at least) is a morning-only kind of thing. I know that some people can drink a cup of coffee and go right to bed, and it’s fine. But I’m not sure I should even write about coffee after lunchtime if I intend to sleep that night! 😉

My Week on Wednesday and Coffee | Once Upon a Time in a Bed of Wildflowers

So now I bring you coffee recipes collected from myself, my fellow bloggers at the Homestead Bloggers Network, and some of my other favorite bloggers.

Start Your Day Off Right Cafe Latte — Coffee with healthful ingredients to begin your day!

Start Your Day Off Right Pumpkin Spice Latte — It’s fall, right? I changed it up a bit for pumpkin spice! 😉

Pumpkin Spice Latte — This one uses plain old brewed coffee, as opposed to espresso, and sounds delicious!

Maple Macchiato — Mmmmm… this sounds fabulous!

Healthy Salted Caramel Latte Recipe — Yum!

Egg and Butter Coffee (plus 3 flavoring options) — I admit that I haven’t actually tried this recipe word for word… but yeah, I do put eggs in my coffee sometimes and, as Pickle Me Too says, “Don’t knock it ’til you try it!”

Pumpkin Pie Latte — This is another egg-in-coffee recipe. Plus pumpkin. And a bunch of other goodies. And I have tried this one. 😉

Pumpkin Spice Mocha — What’s better than hot chocolate? Mocha.

Gingerbread Spiced Bulletproof Coffee — There’s a huge overlap between “pumpkin spice season” and “gingerbread season”, but at some point, you’re going to have to put down all those pumpkin spice drinks and pick this one up!

Homemade Dirty Chai Latte — I’m not sure why I’ve never thought of combining chai and coffee, but I’m sure glad someone did! This sounds fabulous!

A couple more things that are not coffee recipes, per se…

How to use a Percolator — Mmmmm… nothing smells better than percolated coffee! My parents had one when I was growing up, and the first coffee I ever had was black, right out of the percolator, and right off the wood stove.

Home Roasted Coffee — Have you ever roasted your own coffee? It sounds like something to try! 🙂

How to Make Homemade Coffee Cream — If you like flavored creamers in your coffee, please check this out! (The store-bought kind is full of crap; you do not want to drink it!) There are a several really delicious-sounding combinations here. I don’t generally even like flavored creamers… but I am pretty sure I am going to have to give Autumn Spice a try!

And… one tea recipe…

La-la-la London Fog — When I’m having my morning coffee, my kids are having this or something like it. Delicious, this is! 🙂

And now for the Quote of the Week. Approximately daily, I post quotes on my Facebook Page. The quote with the most likes, shares, and comments will become the Quote of the Week.

  1. Love the cloak. 🙂 And wow, these coffee recipes…I already had my coffee quota for the day, but I’m thinking I need to brew some more up just to try one of these! The chai-coffee combo has me SUPER intrigued.
