Hello and welcome to another My Week on Wednesday!
(Yup. It’s Thursday again. I hate it when that happens…)
First of all, a couple of you have been asking… we are not part of the Snowvember, or whatever they are calling it on the news. We do not have feet of snow, and I am really glad to not have any pictures of a wall of snow where my front door is supposed to be to share with you. I’m sure you have seen them… and my heart goes out to those frighteningly snowbound people.
A friend of mine considers himself lucky to have only three feet of snow… with another foot or two expected today. Meanwhile…
… this is my backyard as of this morning.
That means that my excuse for not getting this post up yesterday is somewhat lame by comparison. Or maybe not. We went to look at the High School the Boy desperately wants to go to in two years. There is an application process, so we wanted to get the information ahead of time.
I’m sorry… did I just type that my little BOY is going to high school in … twenty-one months…? Excuse me. I need a moment.
Okay…
Yes, I know that Thanksgiving isn’t until next week, but I have some great recipes and other Thanksgiving ideas from myself, my fellow bloggers at the Homestead Bloggers Network, and some of my other favorite bloggers… and you wouldn’t want all this greatness to show up on Thanksgiving Eve, right? You’ll want some time to check them out before the big day.
Plus — and let’s be honest here — the chances of me actually finding time to write a My Week on Wednesday post next week… are not that great. The kids will be home. I will have pies to bake. And there will probably be at least one hellish trip to the grocery store.
Plus… I am not know for being all that punctual, am I?
I love Thanksgiving. It has all the good food and family times, but without the present-buying and opening stress of Christmas. Plus the weather’s (usually) better. So I am pretty excited to bring together this list:
The Days Before Thanksgiving
How to Prepare for Thanksgiving — Besides buying and drinking a lot of wine. 😉
5 Ways to Host a Frugal Feast — Great tips here!
6 Ways to Simplify Thanksgiving — More great tips! What is Thanksgiving about really? Is it the food? The wine? The table setting? Or is it about being with friends and family?
Thanksgiving Books for Kids — Oh! One of the books on this list is an old favorite that I had completely forgotten about! (Bonus points to those who guess which one it is! 😉 ) I wonder if it is up in the attic somewhere…
Handprint Turkey T-Shirts — These are SO cute!
And for the days after… Eat it up! Love your Leftovers!
Turkey Day
A Real Food Thanksgiving — This is a huge list of every sort of Thanksgiving dish — real food style!
Outdoor Cooking for Thanksgiving — You can go right ahead and turn in your superhero cape right now. The Montana Homesteader shares this post about the Thanksgiving dinner she prepared outside. While camping. In the snow. From turkey to pie and everything in between. This actually sounds SO cool that I think I might like to try it someday… just to say that I did. Preferably without the snow!
Turkey
Best Ever Brined Turkey and Gluten-free Gravy
How to Cook a Pastured Turkey — This would be a great recipe to you, too, if you are lucky enough to be serving wild turkey this year!
Bacon Blanketed, Herb Roasted Turkey — I cannot attest to this recipe, specifically, but I can assure you that the concept is more than valid! My uncle cooked us a bacon covered turkey last Christmas and it was fabulous! 🙂
Stuffing and Sides
Sourdough Stuffing with Mushrooms, Apples, and Sage
Grain-free “Cornbread” and Sausage Stuffing
The Best Green Bean Casserole — I have to admit, I have never been a fan of green bean casserole… but maybe it was the condensed soup, canned beans and… what are those crunchy things, anyway? This recipe, on the other hand, has none of that yucky stuff and looks fabulous!
And don’t forget the mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and cranberry sauce! 🙂
Heart Healthy Cranberry Recipes — Some of these would be great for Thanksgiving, all of them would be great anytime. 🙂
Fresh Cranberry Recipe Round-up — A great big long list of cranberry recipes!
Pies and Other Sweet Treats
Pumpkin Pie Recipe: Made with Honey
Butternut Squash Pie — Why should pumpkins have all the fun, anyway?
Grandma’s Apple Pie — This one’s MINE! 🙂 Er… my grandmother’s…
Deep Dish French Apple Pie with Salted Dark Caramel Sauce
Pecan Pie (without Corn Syrup)
Maple Cranberry Pecan Pie — This sounds fabulous! And, you know what, even if you don’t plan on making this, you should go take a peek because the pictures are gorgeous! (Tell them I said so!)
Cranberry Swirl Cream Cheese Ice Cream
Drinks
Wine. Lots of it. 😉
Glögg — Mulled wine, Scandinavian style; includes both an alcoholic and a non-alcoholic recipe.
Grzaniec — Mulled beer, Polish style; My husband has been making this a lot lately, and it is SO delicious! 🙂
Pumpkin Spice Cider with Whiskey — This one is mine, too. 😉
Homemade Hot Chocolate — Includes links to hot chocolate toppings. Yummy!
And be sure to take a peek at My Week on Wednesday and Warming Drinks — Sure, I wrote this post with Halloween in mind… but it’s cold at Thanksgiving time, too! And the Coffee Recipes! Personally I could never drink coffee after dinner, not matter how much turkey I had eaten! But I know lots of people like it. 🙂

And now for the Quote of the Week. Approximately daily, I post quotes on my Facebook Page. The quote with the most likes, shares, and comments will become the Quote of the Week.
