And Pumpkin Spice week continues over here at Once Upon a Time in a Bed of Wildflowers!
If you haven’t already seen my Homemade Pumpkin Spice Mix, be sure to check it out… because you’re going to need to make some (don’t worry, it takes about two seconds) for this, as the Boy says, “wonderfully delightful” hot chocolate.
If you’re a coffee drinker, you’ll also want to take a peek at my Start Your Day Off Right Pumpkin Spice Latte.
But you came here for hot chocolate, right? And this isn’t just any old hot chocolate. It’s the kind of hot chocolate that is full of nourishing ingredients and antioxidant-rich cacao. The whole thing is practically a super food!
Wonderfully Delightful Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate
serves two
2 cups of the best milk you can find. We use whole, cream top, vat pasteurized milk from grass fed cows.
1 egg from pastured hens
3 Tablespoons of maple syrup (my brother makes mine, but this kind is good, too)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (like this)
2 Tablespoon raw cacao powder (like this)
1/2 teaspoon Homemade Pumpkin Spice Mix
2 Tablespoons butter (like this)
2 Tablespoons canned pumpkin (like this)
Add the egg and the milk to a pan. Use a whisk to break the yolks and mix well. Then add the other ingredients to the pan. And then, and ONLY THEN turn the heat onto medium-low.
(You have to do it this way… otherwise your egg will cook into egg drop hot chocolate while you are running around gathering ingredients. Trust me on this.)
Stir constantly until the chocolate is warm throughout, and all the cacao powder is dissolved.
“It’s wonderfully delightful.”
I am actually having a lot of fun with this little series. Be sure to check back tomorrow, because for my next trick, I have created a pumpkin spice drink with whiskey in it. 😉
And if this sounds amazing, but you feel like you need to kick-start your morning with coffee, be sure to check out Pumpkin Spice Mocha!

Wow! This sounds really good! I love chocolate and I love pumpkin. Will definitely be making this! PINing and sharing on FB, too!
Thanks, Jacquelyn! I thought it tasted like pumpkin pie in a cup… and was really sorry that my kids got the lion’s share of it!
You’ll have to let me know how you like it! 🙂
Hi Christine,
I had to hop by from Natural Living Monday to check out your Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate. With the fall season upon us, this is such a delightful way to warm up and relax after a busy day. I have made a similar drink using almond milk and a little almond butter. Thanks for sharing this. All the best, Deborah
Thanks, Deborah! I’ve missed you! I took the summer off of blog-hopping to… basically hang out with my kids at the beach, but now I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things!
I love the almond milk idea! Thanks for sharing it! 🙂
~ Christine
